Timeline History Of Russia 1533-1991 Essays - Marxist Theorists

Timeline History of Russia 1533-1991 1533-1584 The Russian Empire, covering over one-sixth of the world, is governed by the sovereignty of Czar Ivan the Terrible. The feudal system oppresses every man, woman and child as the Czar releases "Tax Collectors" to maintain support for the nobles in the land. Brigands and financial extortionists persecute any lower class citizen who refuses to help contribute to the Czar's regime. 1682-1725 Under Czar Peter I (Peter the Great), the Russian Empire begins to flourish with traces of traditional social structure modifications in the country. Observing the radical advances of western civilizations, Peter orders the modernization of the army, creation of a navy, encourages mercantilism and foreign trade, and gives women more rights. Nevertheless, the Empire remains stricken in poverty over slow reforms and the overbearing presence of feudalism. 1825-1861 The feudal system begins to fail when the goals and desires of the common peasant cannot be achieved through such an archaic doctrine. Various successive Czars attempt social reforms which do not leave an impact on the country's well-being. In December of 1825, an uprising from the populace occures when they demand changes to the economic system. With the development of the American, French and Spanish constitutions, the serfs now demanded the abolishment of the monarchy dictatorship, communal ownership of land and many other civil and social reforms. Unfortunately, their rebellion was quickly dismantled by the Czar's military faction and the system remained in tact. 1861-1905 Czar Nicholas II finally realized that his current economic monarchy was holding back the development of the empire. He therefore created a parliamentary system in 1905 which would decrease the number of strikes and violent outbursts generating from the peasants. This representative assembly (called a Duma) was convened a total of four times during the first World War and gave legitimacy to other political factions within the empire and would hopefully increase civil rights. 1917-1924 World War I led to the abdication (resignation) of the Czar as the people revolted against his useless monarchy. Famine, disease and death were spreading like wildfire as the Russians aided France against the militia of Germany during World War I. The population lost its faith in the monarchy and installed a provisional government that would keep the country from disintegrating. However, this government refused to intervene during the fragile years of the war and lost its power to a communist party called the Bolsheviks. The Bolsheviks, led by Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov (Nikolai Lenin), overthrew the provisional government and implemented their style of authority to the empire. Their objectives were to lead the Russian empire into prosperity while utilizing Karl Marx's proposed doctrine for a communal, classless environment where the workers will be using their abilities to satisfy their own needs. The Union was now born and the Communist Manifesto was finally going to be activated. The C zar and his family were captured and executed, thus ending the oppressive autocracy that had befallen the empire for hundreds of years. Eventually, the central government was overtaken by Lenin and his military leaders, Leon Trotsky and Josef Stalin. Although a minority party, the Bolsheviks decided to implement capitalistic modifications to the fragile economy in order to aid the communistic backlash that would follow. The New Economic Policy (NEP) created by Lenin would allow peasants to keep a certain amount of profit for themselves, rather than having the government subsidize all of it. Unfortunately, Lenin died just as his policy had started to work. 1925-1953 The two apparent heirs to Lenin's regime were Josef Stalin and Leon Trotsky. Although Trotsky was better suited for the position (with his strong political inclinations towards reasonable social adaptability), Josef Stalin assumed controlled and subsequently ordered the exile of all apposing cabinet ministers, including Trotsky. Anyone in the Union who objected to his decisions was sent to Siberian prison camps or murdered. He now had full control without any intervention from other liberal or moderate parties. He decided to concentrate on improving military strength and building on improving the Soviet economy, rather than follow Lenin's revolutionary goal of dominating the world. In order to obtain the immense amount of money needed to maintain his militia, he began a series of five year programs which would force

How are the monetary tools used to stimulate THE ECONOMY when unemploy

How are the monetary tools used to stimulate THE ECONOMY when unemploy How are the monetary tools used to stimulate THE ECONOMY when unemployment is high? When addressing the problems of unemployment, the monetary tool, expansionary monetary policy comes into play. Expansionary policy makes every effort to stimulate the economy by increasing the sum of money in motion, along with equivalent reduction in interest rates. Expansionary monetary policy is put into motion by the central bank through the open market operation. This is the process of purchasing government bonds to increase the supply of money and lower interest rates. Lowering interest rates and increasing the money supply are done to help with the incentive for businesses to lend, invest, and overall expand. Because the banks and institutions that sold the central bank the debt have more cash, it is easier for them to make loans to its customers (Boundless). Interest rates for loans initially go down, allowing businesses to use the money for expansion. Expansion leads to more jobs to be filled, reducing unemployment rates. How are the monetary tools used to reduce or prevent inflation? The Federal Reserves most import job is to manage inflation while preventing a recession. Contractionary monetary policy is the type of monetary policy the Fed uses in attempt to slow down economic growth. Economic growth can be slowed when the money allowed into the market is limited. This action makes receiving loans more expensive. Most commonly monetary tool used to prevent inflation is the open market operation, which is the process of the Fed buying and selling securities. To prevent inflation securities are sold, forcing banks to buy them, to reduce capital and allow higher interest rate charges. Another tool is the process of raising the Reserve requirement. Raising the amount of money banks are required to reserve allows more to be kept out of rotation. Another tool used is the option of increasing the discount rate. This is the interest rate the Fed itself charges to allow banks to borrow funds from the Fed's discount window (Amadeo). The last tool the Fed may use is the Fed funds rate. This is the interest rate banks charge for loans they make to each other to maintain the Reserve requirement (Amadeo). Usually the Fed will change the Fed funds rate, before making changes the reserve requirement and discount rate. This monetary tool is a simple and gives the same results from raising either the reserve requirement or discount rate. Reference Amadeo, K. (n.d.). How Interest Rates Are Determined. International Business Analysis Project Research Paper

International Business Analysis Project - Research Paper Example According to Busfield (2006), the total worldwide sales of pharmaceutical products in the year 2003 amounted to $ 466 billion (10). It is necessary to note that the usage of prescription medicines globally is on the increase (Blume 1992). All the leading pharmaceutical multinationals, including Glaxo Smith Kline, have head offices in all advanced societies; and their worldwide presence is on the increase (Berg, 1997,). The challenges driving down revenues from the blockbuster strategy to 5% are recognized: declining R&D (Research and Development), rising expenditures of commercialization, augmenting payor influence and shorter exclusivity terms. The pharmaceutical industry has traditionally used the blockbuster approach to develop new drugs, despite numerous challenges of this approach (Williams et. al., 2008, p. 845). Using this approach, some prospective drugs may fail and when their costs are factored in, the actual cost of discovering, developing, and launching new drugs overly i ncreases (McKeown 1976). Publishing arm of a consultancy firm forms the basis of this report and audience are expert in the pharmaceutical field. Challenges of the model The model structure is provided in the diagram below revealing the requirements of the model. The challenges of the model are viewed as the enslaving factors in the pharmaceutical industry. ... vironment for pharma companies has transformed dramatically in the recent past; however, the founding model has not kept the pace thus posing challenges to emerging pharmaceutical companies. The declining research and development (R&D) productivity, increasing costs of commercialization, shorter exclusivity periods and augmenting payor influence have increased the mean expenditure per a successful introduction to $ 1.7 billion and decreased average expected profits on novel investment to the indefensible level of 5%. The challenges has presented predicaments that mergers created will not improve profitability. This forces pharmaceutical organizations to require fresh business models that fit the new environment. The model presents major challenges to all but the three largest organizations; GlaxoSmithKline PLC, Pfizer Inc., and Merck & Co. Inc. the choice is comparatively desolate: with little resources to drive primary care commodities and to venture in the arms race in sales & mark eting, and research and development project (R&D), they will probably be driven faster to replace their blockbuster-based models (Moncrieff 2002). Market worth is shifting previously to some smaller actors that have embraced new models. The effects of model dilapidation have been seen in many pharmaceutical organizations. According to Busfield (2006), pharmaceutical companies get most of their revenue from patented drugs, with most patients lasting for a period of up to 20 years. In 2003, for instance, The US pharmaceutical market, including of six of the peak 10 pharmaceutical corporations, accounted for ‘just under half of the world’s revenue, (Busfield 2006, p. 3).’ The other four companies were based in Europe. Despite the importance of this industry in the world, companies in
